Recently, I decided to free up some memory on the N97. I have no idea how I ended up with a mere 10MB, but I decided to start fresh and reset the device to its original state. Ah, 50MB free. That.s more like it. I know what you're thinking. I'll have to reinstall and set up all those apps. And all those bookmarks, notes, and contats.
Yeah, I'm done with all that. I'll use Google Bookmarks from now on. That way any computer with an Internet connection will be able to access my saved sites. Also, I have switched from Bloglines to using Google Reader for my news feeds. Google Maps is installed again because Nokia Maps is rediculous, and I use the mobile web version of Gmail. Google Tasks helps me keep track of to-dos, shopping, and projects.
I use Google Calendar to track my schedule, and Google Docs is invaluable. I've also been trying out Google Voice as an alternative to make calls and send sms. For video, I have the YouTube app installed. And of course I can use Blogger just fine to post articles and other news.
So, aside from a few installable apps, everythiing I need is online. Should I need to change phones or use anothe computer, the transition will be smooth and easy.

Truck Trouble
Been having some issues with my 1972 Ford F 100 over the last couple of weeks. First, the shifter mount broke and replaced that with a new one. This week the fuel pump started leaking. Just fixed that today with a new one and also replaced the old hoses. Anyways, the old beast is running like a tank once more. At least until the next bad part shows its ugly head.
In mobile news, we've found out Nokia has a mini version of the N97 in the pipeline and looks slick, but the device specs and price will decide how successful it will be in a more savy consumer arena.
We've been playing with the new layers feature for Google Maps, and think this is the future of location-based applications. It really is a test bed for technologies like augmented reality. We love how Google Maps i
I've started a new media mesh project called N The World and have been hard at work getting that rolling. I am also learning a little about cellphone repair. I think there's great need for such a skill in the near future.

On Location: Savannah, GA
So, we've taken a trip to Savannah, Georgia for the weekend and are already having a great time. The sights are awesome and the architecture is amazing. We'll have pictures and maybe even some video in our media posts soon. This is a great place to come to to relax and enjoy the best of "old-time" Georgia. We'll definitely come back to this historic masterpiece again soon.

N-Gage And Ovi Contacts Come To N97
Checked the software updater app on the N97 today, and was pleasantly suprised to see there was an update for the N-Gage app as well as the Ovi Contacts.
N-Gage
At first glance, the application looks a bit dated. Almost as if Nokia took the first version of the new N-Gage and dressed it a touch friendly shell for the N97. Then I tried couple of games and although they don't exactly make full use of the N97's larger screen, the updated game controls work quite well. It will be exciting to see the N-Gage app grow and evolve alongside Nokia's touch UI. It will be equaly exciting (if not more) to see future games take advantage of the larger touchscreen and magnetometer in the N97.
Ovi Contacts
I don't know much about Ovi Contacts, but it looks like a promising social app that fits perfectly for the N97. However, I still wonder why anyone would create an Ovi account, have to invite all their friends, and hope you get a fraction of your contacts to join in. There are just too many social networks and other social tools out there that does about the same thing as Ovi Contacts. We have Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, and more. Don't get me wrong, it's good to see Nokia stying consistent with the whole Ovi idea. I sincerely hope Ovi Contacts brings some original social offerings, because that's what it will take to attract enough people to make it popular.

Out With The Old, In With The New
Tis a sad day for us here at ClearPath. Our old friend, the Nokia N95 has died. It no longer works anymore. For almost 2 years the N95 has served as the ultimate mobile toolbox. Working riggorously in the automotive industry, I've taken the N95 into some pretty dangerous situations. But the phone of phones came out on top every time.
I had intended to do some more mobile blog tests with it, but that's not happening anymore. It's quite ironic that just last week I got my N97. It's as if the N95 was toughing it out untill I found a replacement. I know I should have retired it as soon as I got the new N97, but I was still in transition mode.
And so begins the cycle again. We wait and search for a secondary mobile device to continue our journieys in this harsh and unforgiving world. We understand the importance of redundancy, and have seen evidence of its neccesity.
Goodbye old friend. We will miss you dearly.

Spell Check And Text Links
Today we are testing the spelling checker in Blogger to see if it works an also we will attempt to insert text links and hope those work also. So far, the spell checker works pretty well both in HTML mode and Compose mode.
As for links, NET9 works just fine. There's still no obvious copy & paste function, so links have to be entered manually.

Text And Images
Well, for some reason Blogger wants to put my text in all caps in "Compose" mode. It's okay though, I can use HTML mode just as well. Anyhow, this is just a tes post to see how the N97 handles some more complex blogging actions. Oh, and for those wondering, I'm using the original version of Blogger for these posts, not the mobile version.
Also, I just experienced a browser crash. Thank goodness for autosave! Having some issues with rearranging images once uploaded too. May have to play with it a little to see what works. Getting lots of practice with the N97 keypad though.
Hmmm... It apears there's no apparent way to select text on the N97. Strange. Must investigate further.
It Has Begun
Welcome to ClearPath. This is where I will make my path through mobile technology. From here, I will post exclusively from my mobile devices. Currently, this is the Nokia N97 mobile computer. Going forward I will use this blog as a test platform to see how far I can push the abiliities of continually developing mobile tech. Stay tuned for more cool posts here on ClearPath.
